It is said that almost 2 billion people will be on social media by 2019. Even though ,many people assume that only the young use social media, studies have come up with a whole new view. A good number of old users do exist too. This means that all generations use social media. You will however learn that they will often use different platforms. There is the generation Z that entails of people born as from 1996 to 2015. They actually grew up with technology. This is the reason why they are more likely to understand how to use both the internet and computers better than any other generation. They will however spend a relatively shorter period of time on social media. You will learn that they use social media to fill their time. It is therefore their source of entertainment. You will learn that this is why they are mostly on platforms such as snapchat, twitter and Instagram. You will also note that this is the group that is attracted to YouTube the most.

Then comes the millennials that were born between 1977 and 1995. There is great diversification in the manner in which this group uses social media. This is as a result of the fact that a part of this group grew with computers yet the other half didn’t. This generation is the largest and has the most influence on social media. They will often use social media to make sure that they are heard. The average time they spend on social media is about 159 minutes. You will also realize that they are more likely to use platforms like LinkedIn for the purposes of their professions.

Then comes generation X that has persons born from 1965 to 1976. They are known to be users of at least one social media platform. It is said that about one third of persons aged over 50 are not in a position to give up their social media. They are known to be prone to sharing content more than any other group. They also have the highest disposable income among all generations. This means that they can be target audiences to those who wish to sell products on social media. This is further facilitated by their readiness to share.

Lastly, there is the baby boomers generation that has people born between 1946 and 1964. They are said to be the least on social media. They will often appreciate more content. This is why they prefer platforms like Facebook. As such, it will be possible for them to share their opinions with friends. You will hence appreciate that social media is used by all generations.
